Extra measures must be introduced to guarantee food safety, says Konfindustria
Business organization Konfindustria has declared that it supports parliament’s measures to introduce tougher penalties on those who breach food safety standards. Konfindustria has also demanded extra measures for an effective application of these penalties by government agencies.

Otherwise, according to this organization, there will be a rise in corruption, agriculture and tourism will be damaged, while the economy will suffer long-term consequences.

“Konfindustria maintains that increasing penalties and effective application of the law by government agencies with the aim of guaranteeing food safety, is extremely important. First of all, this protects industries, businesses and honest domestic farmers who compete against domestic products that do not meet standards and imported products.

Secondly, industries and honest Albanian farmers receive a serious blow if consumers no longer trust them.

Thirdly, food safety is directly linked to the industry of tourism in Albania”, the organization says.

Meanwhile, Konfindustria also emphasizes the fact that “criminal rings are also present in European Union countries. These groups export large quantities of food products, which have been taken out of circulation in their country of origin, to non-member countries. These quantities of food products amount to billions of euros a year”, this organization says.
