President sets new election date, PM says elections will be held on Sunday
President of Albania, Ilir Meta delivered a news conference today where he announced that October 13 is going to be the new date for the local elections.

Today the head of the state met with leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, the vice chairman of the Socialist Movement for Integration, Petrit Vasili, leaders of small political parties and international diplomats.

These meetings come three days ahead of June 30 elections, which were cancelled by him on June 10.

PM: June 30 is the only date for the elections

Prime Minister Edi Rama immediately reacted following the president’s decision to issue a decree for the new election date.

In a message posted on social media, Rama says that “June 30 is the only election date”.

According to him, Meta’s decision was another absurdity that he was expecting from him and that Meta’s decision to postpone local elections is invalid. /E.I/
