Lower roaming come into effect on 1 July, no charges after 2021

Starting from July 1 this year, Albania will apply lower mobile roaming charges with countries of the region, based on a document drafted by the Authority of Electronic and Postal Communications. According to this authority, there will be a gradual reduction of roaming charges with countries of the region until these charges are ultimately scrapped within two years. Starting from July 1, maximum charge for outgoing calls in roaming, including VAT will be 28.5 leks per minute, 6 leks per minute for incoming calls, 9 leks for an SMS, while Internet access will cost 26.37 leks per megabyte.

On the other hand, by 1 July 2021, all extra charges will be scraped and Albanian users who use roaming in the countries of the region will pay the same charges they pay in Albania.

Western Balkans countries agreed on Thursday (4 April) to lower and eventually abolish roaming charges, in a rare act of neighbourly goodwill in region riven with political feuds. Starting in July, the deal will cut roaming charges by 27% across Serbia, Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Kosovo.
