Rama says president Meta fears justice

Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama commented today the June 30 elections where the majority obtained more votes than it did in the 2015 local elections.

Convinced that he still has a solid majority, Rama declared that the opposition is unable to win any elections.

“We have a higher percentage of votes than the coalition in 2015 had. We have obtained a higher number of votes for our candidates. Compared to four years ago, this number is 4% higher. To read the normal percentage of turnout in these elections as a refusal by the people, means you don’t know what you’re talking about”, the PM said.

Meanwhile, Rama was harsh against the president, saying that “he mirrors the ones who fear justice”.

“Politically, he makes our position in the eyes of the people easier. People are able to see Ilir Meta’s true hostility against our parliamentary majority and this hostile behaviour is inspired by the disgraceful failure of his plan to mine the elections, prevent the judicial reform and prevent the opening of EU accession negotiations”, Rama said.

Meanwhile, MPs in Albania are debating the impeachment of the country’s president, Ilir Meta, following his decision to cancel the June 30 elections, a decision which the majority considered a violation of the constitution.
