Government approves bill against libel

Government of Albania has approved the so called anti-libeling bill. According to justice minister, Etilda Gjonaj, who announced the news, this bill aims at regulating several aspects of the media in general and electronic publications in particular, in order to avoid the so called fake news.

The main focus of this bill is to regulate news portals. According to her, the existence of so many news portals, many of which are not registered, has become one of the main sources of fake news. This in turn, the minister says, does not guarantee the independence of journalists and destroy fair competition in the world of media.
