Albania obtains support from Austria, Spain and Sweden
Albanian acting minister of Foreign Affairs, Gent Cakaj during the informal meeting with OSCE’s foreign ministers in Slovakia, obtained the support of Austria, Spain and Sweden for the opening of membership talks between Albania and European Union.

During the meeting with Austrian Federal Minister for Europe, Alexander Schallenberg, Cakaj said that two important issues concerning Albania were discussed: EU enlargement perspective of Western Balkans and Albania’s ambition to obtain a positive response in October and also the preparations that Albania is making to take over OSCE’s chairmanship next year.

The Austrian minister Schallenberg said that Austria is determined in its support for Albania’s opening of negotiations, stressing that Albania has taken all the necessary measures and is ready to start negotiations with the European Union.

In the meeting he had with Spanish foreign minister, Josep Borrel, the latter praised Albania’s efforts in delivering the criteria of the negotiations. Borrel assured minister Cakaj about Spain’s support for the opening of accession talks.

The Albanian foreign minister also had a meeting with Swedish foreign minister, Margot Wallstrom. The discussion between the two counterparts focused on the reforms undertaken by Albania.

The Swedish minister hailed the reforms that Albania has conducted and confirmed her country’s support for the opening of negotiations.
