Inspection of vehicles, businesses want to put an end to monopoly
Business organization known as Konfindustria, has demanded the Albanian government to draft the bill for the full liberalization of the vehicle inspection market. According to the general administrator of this organization, Gjergj Buxhuku, this liberalization must be similar to the ones being implemented in EU member countries and the region.

“Attempts to repeat current monopoly or oligopoly models are unacceptable”, he said. Konfindustria is thus supporting the frequent requests made by Competition Authority for the liberalization of this market. “Businesses have filed many complaints and we believe that the decision to turn the annual vehicle inspection service into a private monopoly, is against public interest. Businesses and individuals have been facing growing financial costs and many delays. These costs are not justified by the quality of services provided by the operator. During this period, the cost for businesses and individuals in Albania was 80 million euros”, Konfindustria adds. “The model used to outsource this service has acted as a negative precedent for all PPP contracts that were later signed. These outsourced services affect a number of sectors, while creating problems for the Albanian economy”, Konfindustria concludes.
