Businesses adopted 2604 standards last year; most of them complied with the EU
Last year, private companies operating in Albania have adopted a total number of 2.604 standards. This is confirmed by the annual report of the General Standardization Office, according to which, the majority of them comply with European standards. This number is lower than a year ago, when the business sector adopted a total of 2839 standards. Meanwhile, as far as the way they’ve been divided is concerned, experts explain that 1096 standards were published by CEN (European Committee for Standardization), 488 by CENELEC (European Committee for Eletrotechnical Standardization), 400 by ETSI (The European Telecommunication Standards Institute), 470 by ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and 150 by IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission).

All of these standards are necessary for the business sector in order for it to become more competitive and to operate in other countries of the world. A standard is a document which defines the requirements for a product, material, component, system or a special service, while offering technical details/specifications for a particular method or procedure. As such, they facilitate international trade and ensure compliance and interaction of components, products and services.

On the other hand, these standards also benefit consumers, because a product that meets these standards, is safe and has a high quality. Meanwhile, according to the data issued by the General Standardization Office, in total, Albanian businesses have adopted 25.395 European standards, of which 3.069 belong to ETSI, 6.620 belong to CENELEC, 15.706 belong to CEN and 4984 international standards belong to ISO & IEC.
