Number of passengers choosing air travel is increasing

Travelling by airplane is something which Albanians are really getting used to. This is also indicated by the recent statistical data concerning air transport for last year. According to these figures, last year, the number of Albanians who chose to travel by air was 3 million. In other words, at least one Albanian citizen has travelled by airplane in 2018. “The number of passengers who chose air travel in 2018 was 2.947.172, 12% more than the same period a year ago”, experts of the country’s bureau of statistics, INSTAT, say on this. Meanwhile, according to them, the number of passengers choosing air travel for December, which coincides with the winter holidays, grew. “In the month of December 2018, air transport for passengers accounted for 73.9% of the total figure”, INSTAT’s report states, adding that sea transport has also increased, but not to the extent that air transport has.

“In 2018, the number of passengers who chose sea travel was 1.522.896, while their number registered a 1% increase compared to a year ago”, experts of INSTAT confirm. If we compare these figures, then we’ll see that the number of people who choose to travel by ferry accounts for half of the total number of passengers who choose air travel. The number of people who choose to travel by railway is even smaller. According to the country’s bureau of statistics, the number of passengers choosing to travel by train has dropped. This shows that the railway system is mainly used now for freight.
