Number of foreign businesses in the country grows, Greek and Italian companies dominate
The number of foreign businesses operating in Albania has registered an increase, while half of them are owned by Greek and Italians. Both of these countries have traditionally traded with Albania. This is confirmed by the most recent report of the Institute of Statistics regarding the presence of foreign businesses in the country last year.

“The number of foreign owned companies and partially foreign owned companies which operated in the country in 2017 grew by 11.6% compared to 2016”, the office for statistics, INSTAT said, adding that “Italian and Greek companies account for 54% of the total number of foreign companies and 58,7% of employees”.

On the other hand, experts explain that these foreign companies also make a great contribution as far as the country’s trade volume is concerned. “Companies from these countries realize 59,5% of exports and 50,8% of imports as percentage of the total amount of trade volume that foreign businesses operating in Albania realize”, experts say. According to them, this is an indicator of the importance of Greek or Italian companies in Albania. On the other hand, companies from EU member states account for the majority of foreign owned companies in Albania. “In 2017, EU companies accounted for 66.7% of the number of foreign owned companies. Companies from Western Balkan countries account for 11,8%, while companies from other countries account for 21,5% of the total of foreign companies in Albania”, are some of the data being supplied by INSTAT.
