“There are still flaws, but the situation has improved drastically compared to other years, despite the weaknesses of the local government which has a legal obligation to guarantee these facilities”. This was the comment that was made yesterday by the country’s Prime Minister, Edi Rama regarding the situation with observation towers in the country’s beaches. According to him, “there can be no excuse for this and cooperation with municipalities to guarantee a clean and safe season is strengthening day after day”. Meanwhile, Rama confirms that this is the first time that observation towers have been erected all along the coastline to increase safety for holiday makers.
But, according to him, these observation towers should be made fully functional in order to guarantee safety in every beach. Let us recall that on Saturday, three people lost their lives after being drowned at sea and this number becomes even more tragic if we take into account the number of people who have drowned since the beginning of the holiday season in May. Meanwhile, the increase of the number of foreign tourists in Albania presents an extra challenge for the authorities, which need to boost safety measures.
